Can't a guy ever win?

“Did I tell you how good you look in that top?”

“It’s a new one. Do you like it?” She stood and twirled before him with a smile. It was a tank top with spaghetti straps and girly frills edging around the bottom. She’d bought it from a girl who usually brought clothes to their office to sell on credit to the staff.

His eyes hooded in appreciation and he was glad he wore loose cargo shorts rather than tight jeans. She’d said red was her favorite color; this was a deep wine and it suited her glowing creamy skin to a tee. His gaze glommed to her as she sprawled back beside him. He opened the canned beer she had just set beside him and took a long cool drink.

“I watched the clips of Bolaji’s do, and you were by far the prettiest girl there.”

“Don’t you think you’re biased?” She held his gaze as she swallowed from her glass.

Edward shook his head and gulped the drink. It was a struggle not to follow her rippling throat down into the shadowed cleavage molded into pouting shape by the bodice of the top. They were seated on a sofa in her aunt’s sitting room and though that lady was supposed to be out, he still didn’t feel very comfortable with those kinds of thoughts in his head.

“Maybe it's time to go if you're ready; the literary club fills up quickly as you know and November meetings are more popular since they’re the last of the year." She avoided his eyes and he guessed she was also feeling the heat of their mutual desire.

He only grunted, his hand reaching out to her of their volition. He snagged her waist and pulled her to him. She wanted to stop him but just physically couldn’t. She was captivated by his touch and when he kissed her, she became weak. She wasn’t certain how far she was willing to let him go, but her whole body was practically aching for him and she kissed him back for all she was worth. She didn’t turn her face away when he pulled away to look at her. He framed her features with his large palms and her eyelids drifted closed.

She met him halfway as he bent his head to kiss her again. Her lips parted in welcome, even as she felt his hand move down her ears to her collarbone and then lower. He caressed the top of her heaving breasts for a while and then slid his fingers beneath the bodice of the top to touch her breast. It was a bold, unexpected and delicious caress that sent the moist heat swirling between her legs, and she moaned against his lips. His weight pressed her into the sofa and the heat of his chest encompassed her. Forcing herself to rise above the drugging haze of his caresses, Gladys pushed him back and turned her face away. It took her a minute to catch her breath then she stood and said the first thing that came to mind.

“Aunt Isioma will soon be back. Can we leave now?”

Edward flopped back on the sofa, while his eyes said spoilsport. He replied after catching his breath. "I just don't understand you. How can you stand there so calmly?"

"Edward, if I've told you once I've told you..."

"We’re in your aunt’s house? But this is the only place you’re ever alone with me or in public.” He was frustrated and didn't mind showing it. Can't a guy ever win?

Definitions of love (Poem)

Leggy said here that "if you dont have a definition for it...then it doesnt exist." I have some definitions and that means that for me love exists. Check them out.

Love is the connection of two hearts
When two people touch each other’s soul

Love is honesty and trust
With patience and understanding

Love is helping one another
When there is mutual respect

Love is walking hand in hand
To reach your dreams together

Love is forgiving the others wrongs
That differences may be worked out

Love is the absolute belief
That there is a happily ever after

We can't do this now.

“Do you want some wine then?” Edward spoke out loud this time.

“Yes please,” she nodded. They burst into laughter. It was all just so comical. The sexual tension had been building for a while. During his trip to Abuja they spoke more on the phone and some tender exchanges in the late night calls had gone further than they would have.

Edward filled both glasses with the chilled champagne and gave one to her, lifting his in a toast. “To the beautiful lady in my life, Gladys you’re the only girl that I have ever wanted this badly. I just wish you wanted me half as much.”

If only he knew, she thought lowering her eyes to drink from her glass. She could feel him watching her with a hunger that echoed within her secret places. Her breasts felt heavier, the tips tingling against the fabric of her top. She wanted him to touch her right then and to kiss her, but she also didn’t want him to. She shifted on her seat and adjusted her neckline.

“To hell with it,” Edward muttered. He moved closer and put both arms around her. His mouth covered hers in a warm, wet kiss. The feel of those lips against hers was as thrilling as in her fantasies. She fell back on the cushions and tried to prop herself up by the elbows. He deepened the kiss, and her arms give way so that she fell on her back beneath his weight.

Gladys didn’t know the last time she’d enjoyed a kiss so much. His lips were hard and soft at the same time and his mouth a warm haven. When she felt his hands grip her waist in a tight caress, she placed her palms on his chest and felt the heavy pounding of his heart through his T-shirt. It aroused her deeply to know how much he wanted her. It thrilled her that he could desire her so much that his hands slightly shook as they shifted to her bare arms.

“I want you,” he said on a whisper against her lips, his eyes darkened with passion as they held hers. “I’ve wanted you for months, since the first time I saw you.”

His words brought her back to where they were. She lifted her hands from him to run them through her braided hair. “Edward,” she sighed. “We can’t do this now.”

“Maybe not here.” He lightly stroked her neck his fingers, moving down to the cowl of her neckline. “But it’s so hard not to go further. Having you alone here is torture.”

Gladys sat up and shifted a little. “Anyone can come in anytime…”

As if on cue, footsteps sounded on the steps and in the next minute people were joining them in the room. Edward kept his arms around her and continued to send heated glances her way but she feigned ignorance and smiled as she chatted with Kanayo and the others. Still he stole a long sweet kiss when he dropped her off at her aunt’s place after the party.
